Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
30-plus years
What is your primary product or service?
Hartman Farms provides horseback riding lessons and camps for youth and adult riders. Hartman Farms also provides boarding and training for horses of all ages and backgrounds. Our facility features a large, insulated indoor arena for comfortable year-round riding. In addition, we have two outdoor arenas, a round pen, and over 1,600 acres of trails.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Hartman Farms is a family-owned business that has been passed from generation to generation for many years, first in the Chicago area and then in Southwest Missouri.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Our family-owned and operated business provides professional instruction based on years of experience. Our horses are all high-quality retired show horses that are experienced and great at teaching riders of all ability levels. Our program is unique in that it is perfect for both riders who just want to ride for recreation and for those who are more serious and would like to move into showing horses.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have one location conveniently located off of 1-44 between Springfield and Marshfield.
Provide detailed directions to your location
From Springfield, customers will take 1-44 east toward Marshfield. They will exit at the Northview exit (96), and turn right. After going through the four-way stop, drive for approximately another mile before turning left on Ridge Road (there is a Hartman Farms sign here). Drive one mile on Ridge Road and then turn left on Quarter Horse Drive. This is the driveway and the barn will be at the top.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept cash and check.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Cliff and Mary Chris Hartman own and operate the facility. In addition to these two offering training and riding lessons, we have three other riding instructors who provide lessons.
What are your hours of operation?
The barn is open from 8am-10pm each day, with appointments required for lessons or special training sessions.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
The best compliment we often receive is our customers passing along our name to their friends as a recommendation. Our best advertising comes from word of mouth and our satisfied customers.
