Our offices have provided individual and family psychotherapy as well as psychological evaluations for the community since 1987. Our specialty is working with individuals of all ages suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder and psychological trauma. We also do custody evaluations that are specifically tailored to the needs of the court.

How long have you been in business?
The practice started in June 1987. I was the first Wellness Professional in Springfield. St. John's Health Systems sent me to the Menninger Foundation to obtain all their training in Health Psychology and Biofeedback. This launched my career in counseling with an emphasis in holistic health and wellness. I recieved a great many calls from physicians who knew my work when I was employed as the Wellness program director at St. Johns. The practice grew from simply biofeedback and stress management into a full service mental health clinic when I finished my doctorate and added two pscyhologists plus a psychiatrist to the clinic.
What is your primary product or service?
Our Psychology Service works with individual clients as well as families who need a variety of services. These include psychotherapy, psychological evaluations, custody evaluations, and psychiatric services. Our staff includes four psychologists and two psychiatrists. We cover the range from cradle to grave. Dr. Delores Brown works with children as well as adult psychiatric patients. Dr. Paul Iles is a psychologist who has been trained to work with all ages including Alzheimer's patients. My own specialties are in working with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Child Custody Evaluations.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
When I was 16 years old in high school I went through some personal challenges that caused me to seek psychological help. I was benefitted and wanted to learn the practice so I could help others as well. I found it very fulfilling to see others recover from depression and panic disorder so I continued to hone those skills for the past 46 years. Since 2006 I have been the sole civilian psychologist in Springfield for treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder in our returning war veterans.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
In a word, experience. In the past 29 years I have worked exclusively in the mental health business and the past 21 strictly in private practice as a psychologist.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have worked in the same location, 2200 E. Sunshine, since 1988 although our office space has expanded many times. We will be changing locations in 2009 to an office condominium space. The details are being arranged now.
Provide detailed directions to your location
We are located at the Commerce Terrace Building at 2200 E. Sunshine. This is the building on the South Side of the Sunshine at the first stoplight East of Sunshine and Glenstone. We are across the street from Automagic Car Wash and Taco Bell at the intersection of Enterprize and Sunshine in Suite 312.
What type of payments do you accept?
We take credit cards, cash, and many types of health insurance. Much of our business consists of psycholgical evaluations done for agencies, attorneys, and physicians.
Which areas do you service?
We service clients from every geographic location from Kansas City to West Plains.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Dr. Michael Murrell is the owner and director.
What are your hours of operation?
We work Monday through Thursday from 8 am until 6 pm. Other hours are available by appointment.
